Management of type 2 diabetic

The objectives are to determine lifestyle interventions to prevent or delay worsening of complications. Balanced diet and appropriate physical activity must be ensured. Management strategy is targeted at correcting hyperglycaemia and any co-existing medical condition viz hypertension, IHD, dyslipidaemia etc. Since all complications are vascular, hypertension should also be treated aggressively. Smokers should be counseled to quit smoking. All patients of type 2 diabetes must receive aspirin unless contraindicated such as in patients with haemophilia, active bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract or the urinary tract, or retinopathy with associated bleeding.
