Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals and caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. The disease is caused by exposure to water contaminated with the urine of infected animals. Approximately 90% of patients manifest a mild anicteric form of the disease and approximately 5-10% have the severe form with jaundice, otherwise known as Weil disease. The treatment is with antibiotics, such as doxycycline, penicillin, ampicillin and amoxicillin
