Parkinson's Disease

It is a degenerative as well as a movement disorder of the CNS affecting control of muscles and thus affects movement, speech and posture; characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement (bradykinesia), (akinesia in extreme cases). Primary pathology is decreased levels and action of dopamine. PD is both chronic and progressive. It is the most common cause of parkinsonism, a group of similar symptoms. While most forms of parkinsonism are idiopathic, there are some cases where the symptoms may result from toxicity, drugs, head trauma or other medical disorders.
