Tietze's Syndrome [Costochondral Junction Syndrome]

Tietze's syndrome is an idiopathic costochondritis, an inflammatory disorder characterized by chest pain and swelling of the cartilage of one or more of the upper ribs (costochondral junction). The exact cause of Tietze's syndrome is not known. The patient complains of pain that is often localised to the costal cartilage. Treatment of Tietze's syndrome is with simple analgesics such as paracetamol. In persistent cases local steroid / local anaesthetic injections may be indicated.
