Hirsutism
Hirsutism is defined as the excessive growth of thick dark hair in locations where hair growth in women is usually minimal or absent. Hirsutism may be familial or may be due to ovarian, adrenal causes or drug induced. A proper work up is important to determine the cause. Treatment for hirsutim is unnecessary if no abnormal etiology can be diagnosed and if the patient does not find the excess hair cosmetically objectionable. Offer treatment if an underlying disorder is identified or if the patient is troubled by the hair growth.
