Erythema nodosum
Erythema nodosum is inflammation in a certain portion of the fatty layer of skin. The nodular swelling is caused by a special pattern of inflammation in the fatty layer of skin (panniculitis). It presents as reddish, painful, tender nodules most commonly over the shins. They range in size from 1 to 5 cms. It can be self-limiting and resolve on its own in 3 to 6 weeks. Treatment of the underlying disease forms the mainstay of management.
