Tinea Versicolor (Pityriasis Versicolor)
Tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor) is a common superficial fungal infection of the stratum corneum. It is caused by the fungus Malassezia furfur. Topical therapy alone is indicated for most patients. Systemic treatment is indicated with extensive involvement, recurrent infections, or when topical therapy has failed.
Skin lesions are either hypopigmented or hyperpigmented. With treatment skin colour alterations usually resolve within a few months of treatment. It does not leave any permanent scars or pigment changes.
