Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a purulent inflammation of mucous membrane surfaces caused by a sexually-transmitted microorganism, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Infection of the lower genital tract, the most common clinical presentation, primarily manifests as male urethritis and female endocervicitis. Antibiotic therapy should be as soon as possible. A choice of antibiotics should take into account patient convenience and comfort, cost, the likelihood of patient compliance, and the need for follow-up care All patients with gonococcal infection should refer all their sex partners (whether symptomatic or asymptomatic) for evaluation and treatment.
