Managing Chronic Pain
Pain in considered chronic when it has continued for more than 6 months. First step in treating chronic pain is to identify the source of the pain, if possible. Persistent pain should never be ignored because it could signal disease or injury that will worsen if left untreated. Chronic pain can be divided into Nociceptive pain (NSAIDs choice of medication), Neuropathic pain (amitriptyline, carbamazepine & gabapentine choice of medication) & Chronic pain syndrome (Tricyclic antidepressants choice of medication)
