Prolonged Fever in the Adult
Prolonged fever is a fever that has lasted for over three weeks or more despite routine investigations and treatment. Before ordering large number of tests one should rule out common diseases viz pneumonia, typhoid, sinusitis and urinary tract infection. Reevaluating history and a repeat physical examination is quite often helpful before repeating laboratory tests. In India, Tuberculosis (of any organ) is most often the diagnosis.
