Upper GI Bleeding

80% of all GI bleeding have upper GI bleed. Primary aim of management is to prevent hypovolaemic shock and to find the cause and to stop the bleeding. Subsequently one should aim to prevent recurrent bleeding and repair the primary cause. Rectal examination is mandatory in every patient with haematemesis. Shock is what has to be looked for and controlled.
