Gastrointestinal Bleeding
More than 5% of surgical emergency patients have acute GI bleeding. Patient's history yields clues of the underlying cause, but it seldom has any effect on the acute management of the bleeding patient. Important pointers the history are, use of analgesics and NSAIDs, history of ulcer or liver cirrhosis. Clinical examination helps determine severity of bleeding.
