Vaginitis

Increased vaginal discharge with itching and a burning sensation in the external genitalia and dysuria without pelvic pain or systemic symptoms. It is usually possible to obtain a diagnosis of sufficient accuracy by gynaecological examination and basic laboratory tests. Common causes are candida and trichomonas. Vaginitis is to be treated according to clinical manifestations. It is also common with IUD use. Whatever the aetiology metronidazole forms the mainstay of therapy.
