Typhoid Fever
Typhoid, characterised by persistent high fever, abdominal pain and severe anorexia is caused by S Typhi. A less severe form is caused by S paratyphi. Spreads through feco-oral contamination. Antibiotics bring about early recovery, proper selection and usage of antibiotic is very important in the face of developing drug-resistant typhoid fever, now that even Ciprofloxacin is showing resistant. A small number may become chronic carriers.
