Rubella
Rubella is characterized by mild catarrhal symptoms, fever, enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and jaw angles already before the rash. A macular rash spreads from the face onto the trunk and extremities, and disappears in 2 - 3 days. An important complication is risk of foetal injury. Termination of pregnancy is indicated if a woman has rubella during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. Rubella vaccination prevents the disease effectively. If a pregnant woman has no rubella antibodies she should be vaccinated after delivery.
