Smallpox

Smallpox is a serious, contagious, and sometimes fatal infectious disease. It is caused by variola virus, The centrifugal distribution of lesions, more prominent on the face and extremities than on the trunk, is a distinctive diagnostic feature of smallpox . Lesions progress from macules to papules to vesicles to pustules. Pustules form scabs which leave depressed depigmented scars upon healing. No effective treatment, other than the management of symptoms, is currently available.
