Leucopenia
In leucopenia, the leucocyte count is below the reference range, i.e. less than 3400/ dL. Common causes are Infections (Bacterial, Viral, Protozoal ie malaria), Leukaemia, drug induced or Aplastic anaemia. If AIDS is ruled out, leucopenia is mostly neutropenia. Hospitalization is advisable if the patient has fever or if the leucocyte count is less than 500/dL.
