Hypocalcaemia, hypoparathyroidism and vitamin D deficiency
The causes of hypocalcaemia include Hypoparathyroidism, deficiency of vitamin D and renal insufficiency Patient may present with tetany, muscle cramps (finger paraesthesia, cramps in the hands, face and larynx) and paraesthesias. Patients with acute symptoms should be administered 10 mL of 10% calcium gluconate should be given intravenously over at least 10 minutes.
