Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a condition in which the cauda equina is under compression in the lumbar spinal canal. LSS has two forms: central and lateral while it may affect younger patients due to developmental causes, it is more often a degenerative condition that affects people age 60 and older. The patient typically reports that flexion of the spine relieves and extension worsens the symptoms Spinal or neurogenic claudication appears when the patient walks, forcing him to stop. A variety of surgical procedures are available which include decompressive laminectomy, Anterior lumbar interbody fusion, foraminotomy, laminotomy, laparoscopic spinal fusion, medial facetectomy, posterior lumbar interbody fusion, posterolateral fusion and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
