Cerebellar Disorders

Cerebellar disorders can have many aetiologies including vascular, space occupying lesion, neoplastic or infectious, hereditary or metabolic. Wernicke's encephalopathy is the commonest cause in adult life. Friedrich's ataxia is the commonest of the genetic causes. Patient has disturbances of gait, nystagmus, intension tremors, dysarthria and vertigo. Prognosis depends upon the cause of the condition. Wernicke's and viral encephalopathy may be reversible but most causes are not.
