Ectropion
This is sagging and eversion of the lower eyelid. The most common cause is old age. Cicatricial ectropion results from scarring of the skin. Paralytic ectropion results from a facial nerve palsy. As the conjunctiva is exposed it becomes irritated, erythematous, and hypertrophic. At a later phase, ulcers develop on the exposed conjunctiva. Treatment is with control of any secondary infection and surgical correction of the underlying structural deformity.
