Hordeolum
Hordeolum is a localized superficial abscess usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus. It affects the eyelid sebaceous gland. Patient presents with painful eye, foreign body sensation , lacrimation and photophobia . External hordeolum points to the skin surface while internal hordeolum points inward toward palpebral conjunctiva. Warm compresses to eye are given for 15 minutes four times a day. Incision, drainage and curettage may sometimes be required.
