Osteoarthritis
Primary osteoarthritis develops in an anatomically perfectly normal joint. Its aetiology remains unknown although genetic factors play a role. The underlying factors in secondary osteoarthritis are diseases, traumas or disturbances in the development of the joint. In hip osteoarthritis, clearly more than half of the cases are primary; whereas in knee osteoarthritis, secondary cases dominate. Non-pharmacological interventions are the first-line therapy for osteoarthritis. If non-pharmacological therapy fails; paracetamol (up to 4 g daily) should be added.Celecoxib rofecoxib, Hylan G-F 20, Intra-articular injection of corticosteroid, Glucosamine and chondroitin, and physiotherapy form other parts of therapy.
