Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
Increased pressure in the carpal tunnel can result from: congenitally narrow tunnel, synovitis of the wrist and the tendon sheath (arthritis), position of the wrist (ergonomics), diseases of the nerve (diabetes, peripheral nerve diseases) and oedema (pregnancy, myxoedema). The symptoms include nocturnal pains and numbness, Steroid injection and wrist splinting have been used effectively in patients with milder symptoms.
