TIC Disorders in Children
TIC disorder means sudden, repeated and unintentional convulsion-like twitches or vocal symptoms of the same muscle or muscle group. It is important that the movements and sounds are discharging, repetitive and arrhythmic, and that the symptoms are unintentional. TICs are divided into transient TICs, chronic tics and Tourette's syndrome. Transient tics go away by themselves. TICs which last one year or more are called 'chronic tics'. Children with Tourette's Disorder have both body and vocal tics (throat clearing).
