Diagnosis and treatment of childhood asthma
Asthma is the most common chronic illness in children. Early detection and accurate diagnosis of asthma is a must for achieving good therapeutic control thus allowing the child to lead a normal life. Asthma in parents, h/o atopic dermatitis in the child and recurrent airway obstruction indicate guarded prognosis/chronicity of symptoms. Cough without dyspnoea should be carefully assessed to avoid over diagnosis. Regular drug therapy should be considered, if the child has, at least, weekly symptoms. The goal is the minimal dosage needed to control symptoms.
