Epilepsy in Children

'Atypical' seizure symptoms are identified as possible epilepsy. In generalized seizures, the initial symptoms always originate from both cerebral hemispheres. The motor symptoms are bilateral from the start. Unconsciousness is usually the first symptom. Absence seizures last <30 seconds, typically 10-15 seconds and dozens of seizures often occur in one day. Children with prolonged (>15 minutes) or frequently-recurring seizures are examined and treated in hospital as emergencies.
