Anaemia in Children
Anaemia is defined as haemoglobin (Hb) less than the lower limit of the reference range for age: If anaemia is suspected, a full blood examination, blood film and reticulocyte count should be done. Any further investigations will be determined by the blood film appearance. The initial classification is based on MCV. Microcytic anaemia with low S Ferritin levels indicates iron deficiency; Increased MCV (Macrocytic) may indicate B12 or folate deficiency.
