Salivary Gland Swellings
Salivary gland swelling may be due to mumps, parotitis, abscess or a tumour. Painful and fluctuating unilateral swelling could be a sign of sialolithiasis. If swelling is bilateral and almost asymptomatic, rheumatic diseases or other systemic diseases should be considered as a possible cause. In a patient over 50 yr, a slowly developing, unilateral swelling should arouse the suspicion of malignancy.
