Prevention and treatment of bed sores
Prevention is the best measure and effective nursing care can prevent the development of a bed sore. Assessing the underlying diseases, the nutritional state, degree of pain and mental status of the patient is important while handling a patient with bed sores. Diabetes and impaired peripheral circulation are two of the common risk factors for delayed or unsuccessful healing. Management includes minimizing pressure, adhesive hydrocolloid dressings, avoiding friction, use of decompression mattress, daily dressings and debridement if required.
