Perianal Abscess

Perianal abscess represents an infection of the soft tissues surrounding the anal canal, with formation of a discrete abscess cavity. Abscesses are classified based on their anatomical location. The most commonly described locations are perianal, ischiorectal, intersphincteric, and supralevator the presence of a systemic inflammatory response, diabetes, or immunosuppression justifies concomitant use of antibiotics. Treatment of anorectal abscesses involves early surgical drainage of the purulent collection.
