Groin Pain

In patients presenting with groin pain, septic infections warranting immediate treatment should be identified. A possible fracture of the femoral neck should be kept in mind to avoid additional damage due to weight bearing prior to x-ray. In young adults the causes of groin pain include stress-induced ligament lesion, acute synovitis of the hip joint, acute osteoporosis of the femoral head, femoral head epiphysiolysis, bone tumours, septic arthritis, femoral hernia, bursitis in the hip region and referred pain. Osteoarthritis of the hip and fracture of the neck of femur are important causes in elderly patients.
