- Over 10 years of experience in practicing as a leading Cardio-thoracic Surgeon in Mumbai’s major hospitals like Jaslok, BreachCandy, Lilavati & Nanavati etc.
- Has also worked at the Harefield Hospital, in the United Kingdom
- Under his leadership, his surgical team has performed in excess of 10,000 bypass surgeries, making him one of the highest-volume surgeons in the world. Their surgical mortality rate is less than 1 %, which is one of the lowest documented mortality rates, worldwide
- He is also credited with performing more than 700 repeat (redo) bypass surgeries, as well as more than 1500 surgeries on patients considered high risk by surgical definition. These surgeries have offered a new lease of life to many patients considered 'inoperable'
Awards & Affiliations
- Key promoter and the driving force behind the Asian Heart Institute, the first cardiac specialty hospital set up in Mumbai
- Under his leadership the Asian Heart Institute has the distinction of being the highest volume cardiac surgical center in Mumbai, in the short span of less than three years
- Is credited and recognized amongst his peers as being among the first surgeons in the country to introduce the concept of 'total arterial revascularisation', as well as being one of the pioneers of "off-pump" bypass surgery
- Has been awarded the prestigious Rashtriya Samman for being one of the highest taxpayers during the assessment years 1994-95 to 1998-99, by the Central Board of Taxes, Government of India
- On a social front, Dr. Panda has helped hundreds of economically handicapped patients by waiving off his professional fees for surgery by setting up Asian Heart Charitable Trust to help patients
- His pioneering surgical techniques have also helped lessen the financial costs the patient needs to bear for bypass surgery
- In Orissa, Dr. Panda has set up the Sarla Madan Charitable trust, which funded the library for the B.B. High School in Pritipur
- Currently, he is involved in the setting up of a multi-specialty hospital in Orissa
