Categories
Mutual funds are mainly divided into following categories.
Equity Funds
Equity mutual funds fund manager invests only in equity shares of the listed and unlisted companies with the object of growth through capital appreciation. Equity mutual funds are available with two options i.e. growth and dividend (dividend payout and dividend reinvestment) Following main schemes are available for investment in equity mutual funds:
- Diversified fund
- Sector specific fund (Auto, Pharma, FMCG, Tech, Banking, Others.)
- Tax Saving fund (with lock in period of 3 years)
- Index fund
Debt Funds
Debt funds fund manager invests only in government securities. Debt funds are available with fixed and floating rate options with short term and long term period.
Money Market Funds
Money market funds fund manager invests only in short term money market instruments including government securities.
Balanced Funds
Balanced funds fund manager invests partly in stocks and partly in fixed-income securities, in order to maintain a 'balance' in returns and risk.
