Infective Endocarditis

Infective endocarditis is defined as an infection of the endocardial surface of the heart, which may include one or more heart valves, the mural endocardium or a septal defect. The presentation of infective endocarditis often includes extra cardiac manifestations or Definitions that are associated with intracardiac extension of infection. Fever is the most common symptom and sign. Prolonged parenteral administration of a bactericidal antimicrobial agent or combination of agents is currently recommended.
