Migraine

Migraine is a hereditary paroxysmal disease with its origin in the brainstem nuclei. The premonitory Phase ase of the migraine attack occurs hours to one or two days prior to the onset of the actual headache. Prodromal Phase is most often associated with the aura in migraine patients with aura. The headache phase typically lasts from 2 to 72 hours, may be unilateral (60%) or bilateral. After the headache attack patients often report feeling "washed out", irritable, listless, weak, impaired concentration, aching, reduced or increased appetite, euphoria or hypomania. Triptans are drugs of first choice in severe or incapacitating migraine attacks. Consider preventive medication if there are three or more attacks in a month.
