Red, Wet, or Sore Eye

Conjunctival erythema is most prominent at the conjunctival sac. The vessels can be seen moving with the conjunctiva. The common cause is conjunctivitis. Pericorneal erythema is bluish red, a circular zone is seen around the cornea. It is often unilateral and due to acute iritis, acute angle closure glaucoma and corneal ulcers. The common causes of a wet eye with irritation or feeling of a foreign body are hordeolum at the lid margin, chalazion in the tarsus, foreign body in the cornea or on the conjunctiva, corneal ulcers, Trichiasis and entropion and ectropion.
