Fracture of the shaft of the Femur

Patient presents with symptoms of shock due to the loss of blood into the muscles of the thigh. Locally, there will be swelling of the thigh, deformity and tenderness. Radiographs of the femur will show the level and type of fracture: transverse, oblique, spiral or communited. In cases where reduction and maintenance by conservative methods fail, surgical reduction and internal fixation is indicated.
