Food allergy

Adverse reactions to foods may be toxic or nontoxic. Allergic reactions to food are either IgE-mediated or non IgE-mediated. Anaphylaxis refers to a dramatic multi organ reaction associated with IgE-mediated hypersensitivity. Injectable epinephrine and an oral antihistamine should always be readily available to treat patients at risk for severe reactions.
