Angular cheilitis
Angular cheilitis is a condition with deep cracks and splits at the corners of the mouth. Constantly pooling saliva at the skin fold creates an ideal environment for fungal and bacterial infections. If severe, the splits or cracks may bleed when the mouth is opened and a shallow ulcer or a crust may form. Treatment depends on the cause and includes lip lubrication, antifungals, antibiotics, vitamin supplementation and dentures for a person without teeth.
