Liver metabolizes drugs and toxic substances, alters their chemical structure, makes them water soluble and excretes them in bile. The diagnosis of liver disease depends upon a complete history, physical examination and evaluation of liver function tests that include tests for Liver function tests include tests for bilirubin, enzymes viz ALT, AST, GGT ALP, prothrombin time (PT), serum proteins and ammonia.
