Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding

A detailed history of menstrual bleeding is often more important than the pelvic examination. Differentiation between organic and hormonal causes is important. .Also, differentiation between anovulatory and ovulatory bleeding is done.

Metrorrhagia is irregular uterine bleeding with varying length and amount. It is usually functional in a younger woman, unless she has an infection or pregnancy-related problems. The possibility of an organic cause increases with age. The choice of diagnostic methods is dependent on the patient's age and history.
