Antibiotics and Pregnancy
Untreated bacterial infection is a risk both to the foetus and mother: preterm delivery, intrauterine growth retardation, death in utero, septic shock of the mother. One should use safe antibiotics during pregnancy. A larger dose than usual may be required. For penicillins and cephalosporins the dose may be 1.5 - 2 fold higher than the normal dose.
