Systemic diseases in pregnancy

Poorly treated or untreated systemic disease impairs fertility and their adequate management effectively restores fertility. Preconception planning and counselling by both family physician and the obstetrician is essential for assessing individual risks of pregnancy and delivery. Pre-existing systemic disease must be monitored closely throughout gestation in a high-risk pregnancy. Good collaboration between the family physician and the obstetrician is essential.
