Musculoskeletal
By Dr Bipin R. Shah and Dr Jeshil R. Shah
Ultrasound is an ideal modality for imaging superficial soft tissue such as muscles, tendons, joints and subcutaneous tissues, particularly in the extremities. Ultrasonography has got many advantages e.g. easy availability, low cost, less time consuming, high sensitivity, non-invasive, dynamic and possibility of vascular studies. No sedation is required while scanning children and patients unsuitable for the MR imaging can also be studied. Ultrasonographer's familiarity with normal sonographic anatomy, scanning techniques and sonographic patterns of the pathologic states is however essential. Various infective, traumatic, congenital, vascular, inflammatory and neoplastic pathologies of the musculo-skeletal system can be diagnosed with USG.
