Modern Trends in Spinal Tuberculosis

Spinal TB is very common and is found in all socio-economic classes. The treating physician has to have a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis and treatment. Tissue diagnosis/culture should be attempted in all cases, but is not mandatory for starting treatment. If clinico-radiological suspicion is high, therapeutic trial of AKT is a valid alternative. MDR TB is equally common. Spinal TB with in the absence of grotesque deformity and major neurological deficit needs only medical management. If surgery is indicated, do not delay
