Adjustment Disorders
Adjustment disorders are defined as an inability or maladaptive reaction to an identifiable stressful life event(s) / stressor(s). ( e.g., divorce, family crises, ... ) Symptoms must occur within three months of the event(s) / stressor(s) and persisted for no longer than six months. Psychotherapy is the mainstay of treatment. The patient needs to be heard and understood. The person providing care should both accept the psychological malaise associated with the patient's life situation and at the same time calmly help the patient to see that the situation can be overcome or that it can be alleviated.
