Leg swelling - intermittent compression

Intermittent compression of human extremities eg the calves, to assist the return of body fluid towards heart, is a commonly used treatment option. It is applied through a specific device, which usually, comprises of a cuff and a pressure generator, which intermittently pressurizes the cuff. The pressure generator can be secured directly to the cuff or secured to the body or to the patient’s clothing. Various types of devices are used to manage lymphatic and venous swelling; post-traumatic or postoperative swelling and swelling caused by leg ulcers or diabetic ulcers.
